Right where I belong

I was raised on country music. Artists like Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, The Oak Ridge Boys and Johnny Cash all had a huge impact on my developing young desires to sing, write, and perform music.

While I have my Dad and his family to thank for my country roots, it was the influence of my two older brothers'  music - from The Beach Boys, Def Leppard, and Martin Sexton  - that intrigued me and drew me to a diverse array of styles.

"Transition" (2003) is the blend of these styles and begins to frame my own, personal style. It takes a different direction than my first two, mostly country albums: "The Slamming Door" (1999) and "In Time" (2001). "Transition" begins with "Pop sounds" on songs like "Don't wanna" and "Tonight" and ends with a purer country feel on "When morning comes" and "Many tears from now".

"Pieces" shows up on "Transition" for the first time and quickly became the album favorite.  Interestingly, this song was written before I met my wife Julie and yet - a year later - the lyrics closely resemble the story of our meeting and falling in love. The song has remained one of my favorites through the years because of this and has become so dear to me that I had to re-record it for the new acoustic album "Waiting".
